The best part about being a children's writer is being invited to share your experiences with kids - through school visits, conferences and other events. I love it. I never thought I would be very good at it but soon found out it's mostly about enthusiasm. And I've got that covered...

1 July 2009 - Illawarra CBCA Literary Lunch

Authors, illustrators and schoosl getting together. This year's speakers include Cartoon Dave Hackett (presenting a cartooning workshop), Kate Forsyth, Sarah Davis, David Legge, Sue Whiting, Bill Condon, Richard Harland, William Kostakis, Moya Simons, Felicity Pulman, Bruce Whatley, Mo Johnson and yours truly.

POLAR BOY on the Panda Award Reading List 2009-2010

The Panda Book Award program invites students and teachers from participating international schools in China to vote for their favourite book published in the years 2007-2009. Polar Boy is one of 12 books selected for Middle Grade. The only other Australian book is Treasure Fever by Andy Griffiths. View all books on the list here

At the PETA workshop my mentor was the wonderful Deb Abela, auhtor of Max remy, Jasper Zammit and (I added this later) The Remarkable Secret of Aurelie Bonhoffen. Afterwards I contributed to the What's Your Story Project, a competition for young writers
